Milton Schroeder saw an opportunity in 1954 after serving in the Korean War and attending trade school. He was a young man with a talent for welding and a vision for the future. From humble beginnings in a tiny shop on Main street in Shelton, Nebraska, he soon became one of the most important men in town. He kept the local farmers going during the busy crop season, and took care of much of the area’s small manufacturing needs in the winter. His slogan was “we can fix anything but the break of day.”
The Schroeder Machine Shop now operates out of a much larger facility, across the railroad tracks from where the original shop still stands on the brick streets of downtown Shelton. Milton’s son Marlin Schroeder has taken the manufacturing business to new levels, with worldwide distribution of mass-produced agricultural products as well as custom design of award-winning BBQ smokers and other outdoor recreational products.
